Guru Gobind Singh The Founder of Khalsa

515-GveaEZL._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_Guru Gobind Singh The Founder of Khalsa is a fantastic book on the life of the 10th Sikh Guru. The book chronicles the life of Guru Gobind Singh from his life as a kid to his rise as a spiritual saint and warrior who fought only to defend the weak against injustice as a last resort.  I had discussed about this book in my article Founder of Khalsa: Guru Gobind Singh, Nanded and Essence of a Sardar published under spiritualism. Please refer to the archives. One of the most inspiring figures ever born, he was multi talent, multi-facet saint who left behind an eternal legacy matched by few. A must read for anyone who wants to know about Sikhism and the philosophy and purity behind the meaning of Khalsa…

Books on Buddha

download (2)Old Path White Clouds is one of the best books written on uddha. It chronicles his life from his birth to his search for truth, enlightenment and his experience post enlightenment when he spread his teaching of Dhamma across the Ganges belt about 2500 years ago. Written by Thich Nhat Hanh the famous Vietnamese monk, it’s one of the most authentic stories of Buddha as translated from pali canons. Written in a very lucid manner, it is a must for beginners who would like to know about life of Buddha. The book does not dwell much into the meditation techniques of Buddha rather serves as reference for his life including numerous anecdotes from Buddha’s life, his struggle against the prevailing traditions, establishment of Sangha as well as brief life stories of his chief disciples.

download (1)One of the best books written on Buddha and mentioned in the articles posted under Buddha Paradise is Great Disciples of the Buddha  by Ven. Nyanaponika Thera. A very well written book which vividly elucidates the lives of chief disciples of Buddha including Sariputta, Maha-Moggallana, Ananda, Annuradha, Upali, Maha Kaccana to name a few among others. Ven. Nyanaponika Thera was  a German born world renowned monk, who ordained in Sri Lanka, mastered Pali language ( the language spoken by Buddha ) and translated books on teachings of Buddha from Pali canon. He is also the teacher of Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, an imminent American monk who followed  Ven. Nyanaponika Thera and co authored some books with Ven. Bodhi.
